Driving while intoxicated (DWI) and driving under the influence (DUI) both are terms that refer to the act of operating a motor vehicle (or watercraft or aircraft) while physically impaired by the effects of alcohol and/or drugs. It is a serious offense and if convicted, punishment is severe. They include higher insurance costs, significant fines, driver's license suspension, and alcohol assessment and treatment.
